The Edit: This is an honest Sahajan skincare review from Amanda, a curvy girl, retired Air Force veteran, and full time traveling mom currently based on Oahu. Sahajan is an Ayurvedic skincare brand founded in Toronto in 2015 by Lisa Mattam, a former pharmaceutical executive, and every product is made in Canada. Sahajan gifted the Adaptogenic Brightening Mask, the Radiance Face Serum, and the Golden Glow Eye Balm through ShopMy. The verdict: the mask and the serum both earned a spot in our top 10 and I will rebuy them, while the eye balm works but its texture will not be for everyone. Use code SALTYVAGABONDS-15 for 15% off at sahajan.com. Written for anyone who wants clean, results driven skincare that fits in a carry-on.

We have lived out of suitcases since 2018, and skincare is one of the first things that gets cut when space runs out. In fact, a full size jar rarely makes the bag. So when a brand sends products under two ounces, I pay attention.
Sahajan sent three products through ShopMy: the Adaptogenic Brightening Mask, the Radiance Face Serum, and the Golden Glow Eye Balm. We have had well over 180 giftings come through at this point, and most of them get a fair shot and move on. These did not move on. Instead, two of the three landed in our top 10 favorites, which you can always find in the shop section of our site.
First, every one of these comes in a glass jar or bottle that clears TSA liquid limits. The mask is 1.7 ounces, the serum is 1 ounce, and the eye balm is half an ounce. Together, they take up less room than one bottle of drugstore lotion. For a family that moves between islands and continents, that therefore matters more than any ingredient list.
Sahajan was founded in Toronto in 2015 by Lisa Mattam, and the name comes from “sahaja,” the Hindi word for intuitive. Fittingly, the brand’s tagline is The Science of Intuition, which sums up what Lisa set out to do.
Before anything else, Lisa spent years as a pharmaceutical executive before she started a skincare brand. Still, the origin story is one most moms will recognize. She came home one day to find her toddler covered head to toe in her face cream. As a result, that moment made her realize she had no idea what was in the products on her own counter. Her parents are from Kerala in South India, so she reached for the Ayurvedic products they had brought back from a trip. Then she asked a bigger question: could those traditional ingredients hold up to modern testing?
Eventually, that question became the brand. Sahajan says its formulas are developed with Ayurvedic doctors in Kerala and pharmaceutical chemists in Toronto, then put through clinical studies. In addition, everything is made in Canada. Lisa funded the company herself for years. She took part in the first ever Sephora Accelerate class in 2016 and has been a Credo Beauty partner since the same year. Most recently, in 2025 the Golden Glow Eye Balm won a NewBeauty award for best moisturizing under eye balm. As a South Asian woman building a brand around her own heritage, she is also the kind of founder we love to support.
Sahajan is sold at Credo and The Detox Market, two retailers with strict clean standards. The brand says its products are free of parabens and phthalates. It also carries the Leaping Bunny logo for cruelty free. Most of the line is vegan, but the eye balm is not, because ghee and beeswax are the base. The brand also says most products have no added fragrance, though the serum does use a naturally derived one.
First, I am going to say this plainly. The Adaptogenic Brightening Mask is one of my hands down favorite masks now. I have slowed down on using it because I do not want to run out. You may also see it called the Brightening Mask 2.0 in older reviews, since the brand renamed it.
Yes. Turmeric is the first named active, with kaolin clay as the second ingredient and fruit AHAs from orange, lemon, and bilberry behind it. Meanwhile, holy basil is the adaptogen in the name. So it is a clay mask, but the brand says it was built not to harden the way a traditional clay mask does. In my experience, that matches what I see. It goes on white, and as it sits it does not turn translucent or crack. Instead, it just seems to absorb into the skin.
The scent is the first thing you notice. It smells like essential oils, like a spa. Lemon and may chang oils are on the ingredient list, which explains it. On the skin, it feels like a creamy clay. When I rinse it off with warm water, my face feels supple, silky, and smooth. There is also a brightness to it that I can see, not just feel. In short, it is pretty, and it feels really great. This is the kind of mask that makes an Airbnb bathroom feel like a treatment room.
The label says to apply an even layer to clean skin, avoid the eye area, and leave it on for up to 15 minutes. I leave it on about that long, sometimes a little longer, then rinse and follow with my normal routine. The brand suggests one to two times a week, and likewise says a little tingling is normal. Because it contains AHAs, the label also says to wear sunscreen and limit sun during use. We live in Hawaii sun right now, so that line matters. If you need a reef safe option, our reef safe sunscreens for Hawaii post has what we pack.
The Radiance Face Serum is the other product that made our top 10. I have been using it almost every day, and I am nearly out, which honestly stinks. Either way, I will be buying this one again.
First, the color. It has a brown tint, almost a muddy look in the bottle. The brand says the tan color is natural and comes from triphala, a blend of three Ayurvedic fruits called amla, haritaki, and bibhitaki. However, do not let the color throw you. It goes on light and leaves the skin looking radiant, not muddy.
Sahajan calls this a vitamin C serum, but there is no ascorbic acid on the ingredient list. Instead, the vitamin C comes from the triphala fruits, mainly amla. The brand says it was designed to replace a standard vitamin C serum. Gotu kola, hyaluronic acid, and aloe then round out the formula. The label calls it good for all skin types and especially sensitive skin.
This one has a stronger essential oil scent than the mask, though it is not earthy. Sandalwood oil is on the list along with a naturally derived fragrance, so if you avoid scent entirely, know that going in. For me it smells clean and spa like, which is exactly what I lean toward. The texture is milky and quick to absorb, and as a result it leaves my face really smooth. My face has changed a lot over the last year and a half of travel, and this serum has been part of that routine. That story is here.
Related read: Sahajan is not the only ShopMy gifting that turned into a rebuy. The Agent Nateur review covers the cucumber eye product that took over my under eye routine.
The Golden Glow Eye Balm is a little weird, and I want to be upfront about that. I like it. In fact, I used it long enough to see a change. I am using it several nights a week now, even if the texture took some getting used to.
If you do not like the way Vaseline feels, this is going to feel very similar. There is a reason for that. Specifically, the balm has no water in it. The base is shea butter, sunflower oil, ghee, and beeswax. It stays solid in the jar until it melts into an oil on your skin. So it does not sink in the way the serum does. It sits on top first and then slowly goes in. That is also why the label says to use it at night, before moisturizer, and let it absorb before you sleep.
Here is the part that surprised me. You would not think a balm like this would do much, but I have noticed a real difference in my under eye area. It is certainly not as dark. Likewise, the skin there feels supple again after I put it on. The brand says 100% of participants in its own small study felt softer under eye skin, and that lines up with what I see. A little goes a long way, so the half ounce jar lasts.
If greasy textures bother you, or you want something you can wear under makeup in the morning, this is not your product. If you are vegan, it is also the one Sahajan product with ghee and beeswax. Otherwise, give it a few weeks before deciding.
What gave me pause is the feel. There is a greasy layer that lingers before it absorbs, and for a while I was not sure I would keep reaching for it. Even so, I kept using it, because the results under my eyes were real and I had not found that with other eye products. So the reservation stands. In other words, it works, I just do not love the texture, and I would rather tell you that than pretend it is perfect.
Sahajan makes a full line, including a Radiance Eye Cream, a cleansing oil, a night mask, and a rich face cream. I have not used any of those yet, so I cannot tell you how they perform. Of course, this review will get updated as we try more of the line. Our running list of favorites also lives in the shop section of the site, and it changes as products earn or lose their spot. On the hair side, the serum I am testing month by month is covered in the K18 FutureIQ serum review.
Copy SALTYVAGABONDS-15. Then go to sahajan.com and add the products you want to your cart. Finally, at checkout, paste the code into the discount box and apply it. You should see 15% off on single products. The code does not stack with other offers and does not work on bundles or gift cards. Verified active as of October 2026.
The code only works at sahajan.com, so that is where I would start. If you prefer a store you already use, Credo Beauty and The Detox Market carry it online and in their US locations. Beauty Heroes and Amazon stock it as well. If you are in Canada, it is also at Sephora, both in stores and on Sephora.ca. That is Canada only for now, so US readers will not find it at a Sephora counter. The brand’s site has shown products out of stock at times, so if something is sold out, check one of the retailers above.
Yes. Use SALTYVAGABONDS-15 at sahajan.com for 15% off single products. It does not work on bundles or gift cards.
Yes. SALTYVAGABONDS-15 takes 15% off at sahajan.com. However, it is one code per order, and it does not stack with other offers.
Not that I could find. Sahajan does not list a military or veteran discount. Instead, our code SALTYVAGABONDS-15 comes from a veteran owned site and works for everyone, so that is the best option right now.
Only in Canada. Sahajan is in Sephora stores across Canada and on Sephora.ca, but not at US Sephora locations as of this writing.
Sahajan.com is the only place the code works. However, in the US you can also find it at Credo Beauty, The Detox Market, Beauty Heroes, and Amazon.
Yes. Kaolin clay is the second ingredient, with turmeric and fruit AHAs. In my experience it does not dry hard or crack like most clay masks. My skin feels silky after I rinse it off.
By the brand’s definition, yes. Sahajan says it uses natural ingredients plus safe synthetics and is free of parabens and phthalates. It is carried by Credo and The Detox Market, which both screen for clean standards.
Mostly. The mask and the serum have no animal derived ingredients. The Golden Glow Eye Balm is not vegan because it is made with ghee and beeswax.
Yes. The brand says it is committed to being cruelty free and also shows the Leaping Bunny logo on its product pages.
In my experience, yes. After using it at night for several weeks, my under eye area is noticeably less dark. The texture is greasy, so it is a night product for me.
The Sahajan site features a quote from Oprah calling the Brightening Mask her favorite Sunday facial treatment. I did not find a formal award, but after using it, I understand the quote.
The brightening mask. It is the one I would rebuy first and the one that made me a fan of the brand. Then the serum is a close second if you want something for daily use.
Yes, the mask and the serum without hesitation. As a curvy girl living out of a carry-on, I need products that earn their space, and those two did. The eye balm is on my face several nights a week too, as long as you are fine with a balm texture. I will keep this review updated as we try more of the line, and our current favorites always live in the shop section. Use SALTYVAGABONDS-15 for 15% off at sahajan.com. If you want to see the other ShopMy gifting that became a rebuy, read the Agent Nateur review next.
