Stay steps away from the beach in Canggu! Discover vibrant restaurants, surf shops, and nightlife just down the street. Enjoy easy access to Bali Niki Natural Art Market amidst picturesque rice fields. Your perfect tropical getaway is here at Villa Moana, here’s what you need to know
After arriving in Singapore via our Space A to Asia adventure, we stayed for 2 nights. We were looking for somewhere to soak up the sun and relax after our whirlwind journey halfway across the world. And this was the perfect spot!
Amanda always looks for boho – chic accommodations, and she was super excited about this one. We managed to snag a small opening at Villa Moana for the day we would arrive in Bali from Singapore.
The house came with a concierge butler (House Manager), Dewa, who was amazing. Dewa was accompanied by the chef for meals and they both were awesome. Breakfast was included with our stay, allowing us to relax after the craziness of all that travel.
When we arrived at Villa Moana I was expecting to stay in one of the rooms within the property. However, your stay here includes the whole villa.
The location had four rooms with king-size beds and one room with bunk beds for kids. Each room had a bathroom and was decorated uniquely but shared the same design elements. All rooms featured bug nets and air conditioning units. They’re beautiful and we all had trouble deciding what rooms to pick.
The room we chose for our stay was the casita across from the main house. We loved this room because it was beautifully decorated and very quiet.
The bathroom had a large soaking tub, an open concept shower, and a magical shell door curtain. The shell curtain separated the toilet and the bathroom storage for towels and sheets.
The bunk room featured beds that looked like full-size mattresses. It was really cute, with some toys and even a monkey and elephant stuffed animal. Super kid friendly, Audrey was in love!
They added a nice cargo net to the top bed so the kids wouldn’t roll out at night or fall out if they were horse-playing. Audrey was stoked to have Legos to play with and build if we weren’t enjoying the pool.
The room features a Jack and Jill bathroom connecting to the “parents’ room” that includes a king-size bed. This bathroom only has a shower, toilet, and vanity—no tub here. That’s what makes this property unique, each room was beautifully decorated and just slightly different.
If you’d like Dewa to arrange experiences such as a cooking class, a tour of the rice terraces, or a visit to one of Bali’s oldest temples, they’re eager to assist. Our stay was brief but they were incredibly helpful in arranging our in house massages, mani-pedis and in arranging transportation from the airport and to our next location.
The house features a yoga area equipped with yoga mats, offering a bird’s eye view of the property and surrounding area. It also includes large cushioned chairs for relaxation.
The private pool was fantastic for enjoying a refreshing dip. It’s divided into a shallow area and a deep area, staying cool throughout the day thanks to the shade from a beautiful plumeria tree. It’s the perfect spot to cool off from the Bali heat.
The beautifully crafted lounge area was the perfect spot to unwind after a morning swim. Adorned with tropical plants and flowers, the pool area exuded a serene atmosphere. The spacious lounge couch comfortably accommodated six people. We loved relaxing and having our first floating breakfast here.
This house offers everything you need for a relaxing stay with exceptional care. They arrange for a spa therapist to provide massages and nail services on-site. Despite their regular therapist being unavailable, Dewa promptly contacted another business who arrived at the house on short notice.
Amanda got two massages, one each day we were there. The girls also got Mani- Pedi’s and Audrey got a kids massage. It was awesome not having to leave to villa.
They also offer the option to cook dinner for you. The house is fully equipped with a cooktop, oven, cookware, and dinnerware. While we didn’t use this service, experiencing the restaurant scene is also on our to-do list.
The villa is in a great location with lots to offer just a short walk away. It’s close to Echo Beach surf spot and the restaurant La Brisa Bali. Additionally, you’ll find nearby amenities like laundry services, cafes, and the infamous M Marts.
We decided to go out to eat after our light travel day and consulted with Dewa, who suggested La Brisa. Opting for poolside seating, we were welcomed by a lounge-style setup with a small round table in the middle. To sit there we were told there was a minimum spend of about $100 USD. We thought this wouldn’t be a problem because that’s a normal bill for a family of four ordering in the USA.
The ambiance was soothing as we enjoyed mixed drinks from the bar. Here’s what we ordered: A Cheese Plate, Korean Chicken Wings, Edamame, 2 Beef Pepperoni Pizzas, Beer Battered Dory and Chips. Spoiler alert, we didnt meet the minimum spend so we had to get dessert after already being pretty stuffed.
We opted to try the Paletas Way Popsicles. We got two GOLD Sparkle (ice cream bars with a hint of gold) and two PREMIUM fresh milk and fruity flavors (ice cream bars)… still didn’t hit the minimum spend but we got close enough the waiter was cool with it.
The food arrived in stages, which worked well. Our waiter promptly served our mixed drinks and the kids’ drinks, all of which were delicious. The Korean BBQ chicken was excellent, though the sauce turned out to be spicier than expected! 🌶️
The pizza had a nice crispy crust and great overall flavor. However, a couple of the paletas didn’t taste as expected.
Overall, the restaurant was well-designed, and everything we tried was flavorful and enjoyable. It’s a fantastic spot for dinner or drinks by the beach. Don’t forget to bring your swimsuit because they have a pool you can enjoy too!
It seemed modern with a soft ambiance, featuring wood chairs with wicker inlay. Surprisingly, it was only their 9th day since opening. When I walked by, the restaurant was empty, prompting me to wonder why.
We decided to eat at Manggar Restaurant & Bar on our last night in Canggu. We got there around 3:30 PM and were seated right away. The place looked modern and cozy with its wooden chairs and wicker details.
Once we sat down, the staff told us the kitchen was closing until dinner at 5:00 PM. Since the kids were hungry, we asked if we could order a snack before they shut down the kitchen. They were happy to help us out.
I ordered a cooked red snapper with a green curry. The fish was excellently cooked. I don’t even remember what the girls had because the fish was really tasty and super flavorful.
While we were in the tropics, the weather was consistently warm. We visited during the notorious rainy season, which was just starting in November. Despite the heat, we were prepared for it.
The best time to visit is during the dry season, which typically spans from March to October or November. The rainy season occurs from November to February.
If you’re planning to surf, the ideal months are March to October. During our stay, however, the swell was very small and not ideal for surfing.
Dewa arranged for a driver to pick us up. If you don’t know much about arriving in Bali then you may be surprised at how overwhelming trying to find your driver can be. The drive from the airport to Canggu is tedious and “wild AF”. The streets in Bali are narrow and loaded with traffic. Expect a long drive.
We recommend staying here for several reasons. The beach is just a 600-foot walk away, and there are restaurants, surf shops, and nightlife options down the street. You’ll also be close to attractions like the Bali Niki Natural Art Market in Canggu amidst picturesque rice fields. It’s one of the best villas in bali and we know you’ll love it here too!
