Puerto Beach Club Review
Puerto Cortes, formerly known as Costa Baja Resort, has recently introduced a new beach club. Enhancing their existing private beach in Puerta Cortes, Baja California Sur. We had the privilege of witnessing the construction of this new club during our time residing at the Marina.
Which only added to our anticipation of experiencing it once it was completed. As guests of the Vista Mar Residences we were able to check it out a few times. The beach club offers a delightful ambiance, where you can indulge in delicious food and refreshing cocktails while basking in the sun on your very own secluded stretch of beach.
Location
Puerto Beach Club is located within the Puerta Cortes property. The beach club is nestled between Hotel Indigo La Paz and a condominium building. You’ll see the Puerto Flag and a beautiful tunnel of greenery as you enter.
Seating
All of the seating is in an outside environment. The main dining area is nestled in between palm trees that were carefully planted. The palm trees provide a perfect area of shade and relaxation while enjoying your meal.
The beach club has a covered location that is just at the end of the boho inspired bar. It is elevated to provide an unobstructed view of the water for the perfect sunset dinners or happy hours.
The beach seating consists of cabanas with lovely beige shades. You get the perfect blend of sunlight if you are relaxing on the lounger. They included a side table and can deliver anything you request from the restaurant or bar.
There is an area by the pool that has tables with cushions on the ground for a more relaxed dinner experience. The tables have a beautiful wood grain pattern and color.
Menu & Food
An interesting attribute of the menu is that it looks like a stack of napkins and was hidden in plain sight at a first glance.
The menu is made of a burlap type material and is sewn together like a book. The menu is screen printed on a cloth type book. It is the only menu we have ever seen that is done this way in our list of 20 countries we have visited. It’s a conversation starter for sure.
Also I think it is the first menu that has a built in suggestion list that we have seen. Usually the signature dishes or suggested dishes are mixed into the menu with an asterisk or other type of identifier. But, on this menu it has its own page.
We think it is a cool touch. The architects and designers did an excellent job and it really shows.
This interesting menu has exactly what you want on a beach day. Some of our favorites are the arrachera nachos maneados and the puerto hamburger.
Recommended Dishes
The menu options all piqued my interest but the surf and turf steak I wish I tried. We have only tried a few of the items on the menu but the angus burger and the nachos are a must have while at the beach.
Vegetarian, Vegan and Gluten Free Options
A good portion of the menu has the ‘GF’ tag by the menu item indicating gluten free. I’m sure if you ask the waiter they can make you a vegetarian or vegan option of a dish that has the makeup to easily be changed. I changed the nachos from vegetarian to non vegetarian by adding the steak.
Drinks and Cocktails at the Club
The cocktail menu has the same physical attributes as the food menu and features a cappuccino cup on the front cover. The menu has just about everything you can imagine from imported/local beers to Clase Azul tequila in shots or margaritas.
If you are a red wine lover they have you covered with 3 pages of wines from France, Mexico and my favorite, Spain.
If you are looking for a mid day pickup they offer Cafes in a small variety and virgin cocktails including smoothies.
Kids Meals and Friendliness
The kids menus you will have to ask about but Audrey loves the chicken tenders and fries option. The chicken tenders were perfectly lightly breaded being crispy on the outside with great tasting chicken inside. If you have ever eaten at a Jollibee in Asia you will see the resemblance.
Ambiance and Events
As you walk in you notice the tunnel that is covered with growing vines. It creates a secret tunnel entrance that will make you feel like you’re stepping into paradise. The kitchen and bar are housed in beach bungalo styled buildings along with the bathroom.
They incorporated a lot of soft earth tones into the tables, menus and even the swimming pool. As soon as you reach the main dining floor your feet will hit the sand. You are always on the beach here at the beach club.
You get a relaxing vibe and soothing sound of the wind softly rattling the palm leaves. The palm trees (actually more like a bush because they don’t have branches) obstruct the views of the other tables creating a slight mystery to the other people enjoying the dining experience.
At our time of visit during the summer which is the slow season there were no events going on or planned. If you are looking for that sort of entertainment you’ll want to follow the Puerto Cortes socials as events around the property are often shared there.
Service at Puerto Beach Club
The service is very polite and on the authentic side of life. You can expect the service to be more proper and professional then laid back. The staff here has been great and we never had any issues.
Final Thoughts
The Puerto Beach Club offered by the Puerto Cortes (Costa Baja) is a new addition and the location is stunning. It passes the Boho Vibe Check for sure and it’s within the La Paz area. If you’re planning a trip to Baja California Sur you’ll want to visit Puerto Cortes. If you want to relax with your family or your friends on a beach day you need to come and spend at least a day here.
