If you’re planning a visit to the Cancun area add the Hello Kitty Cafe to your list. The speciality drinks with hello Kitty shaped cookies are so cute and the food is great. Making it the perfect stop to surprise your kids on vacation in Cancun Mexico or celebrate a special occasion. Here’s everything you should know to plan the perfect visit.
We’re currently spending some time exploring Cancun Mexico and found out a new Hello Kitty Cafe just opened up in the area! We had to check it out and we’re glad we did!
The café is inside the Go Grand Outlet Riviera Maya. To get there, just drive on Mexico 307 (Carretera Cancún) until you see the big mall. It’s open every day from 11 AM to 8 PM.
M1 de la SM 47 Km 21 Carretera Cancún – Puerto Morelos, 77564 Cancún, Q.R., Mexico
Once you arrive, you’ll find parking underneath the mall. When we got there, we saw two security guards and asked where to park for our 11 AM reservation at the Hello Kitty Café. They told us to go underground, grab a ticket, and park at the far end of the mall.
We drove all the way to the end because we weren’t sure where the café was. Don’t do this – it just made us walk more, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. When you see the first escalator, park nearby and use Google Maps to find the Hello Kitty Café Cancun ounce you go up the escalator.
The parking garage is big and somewhat overwhelming if it’s your first time visiting this location. Just look for signs that say “restaurant parking” and if you park in that area you’ll get pretty close to the restaurant.
At the Hello Kitty Café Cancun, there are plenty of seating options for your meal. You can choose to sit inside, outside, or even in a private VIP Room. With a Regular Reservation, you’ll have access to seating outside, upstairs, and on the main floor.
When you reserve a table on the website, you have two options to choose from:
Each area has its pros and cons. The downstairs area across from the VIP room feels more intimate and less chaotic than upstairs, but the lighting for videos and photos is terrible in our opinion.
Outside seating is fine if you don’t mind 95-degree heat and extreme humidity, but it’s not the best option for comfort during summer months. It would be perfect during the winter months.
The VIP seating option was nicely decorated and featured a large Hello Kitty-inspired wall art. However, the VIP room felt a bit like a dungeon due to its dim lighting and lack of windows. Considering the $250 fee without a food credit included, it doesn’t offer great value for a regular lunch outing.
The menu is much larger than we expected. It features breakfast all day, along with a variety of lunch and dinner options. For breakfast, you can enjoy classics like chilaquiles, molletes, and avocado toast.
We visited for lunch, eager to try the food because it had great reviews on multiple platforms. This was a pleasant surprise, as many themed cafés and restaurants we’ve been to usually have mediocre food quality and taste.
We ordered four meals, drinks, and dessert. Here’s what we got:
Hot mocha, Frappe mocha , La malteada (milk shake), Waters
Chicken Enmoladas, Hello Kitty Sliders, Risotto Filet Steak & Salad
Lemon pie, Cake Pop, Strawberry Cream Cake
Everything was tasty and full of flavor, just as you’d expect from Mexican cuisine. My favorite was the enmoladas, and they definitely didn’t disappoint. They tasted homemade with a slight kick of spice and a hint of peanut flavor.
The immersive dining experience (experiencia inmersiva) was really well done. Amanda ordered the risotto filet steak, which was wrapped in bacon like a filet mignon. The risotto rice was creamy and cooked to perfection.
The Hello Kitty Sliders were made with Angus beef and came with chips. They would have been even better paired with cilantro fries, but they were still mouthwateringly good. Audrey loved how fresh the salad and strawberry vinaigrette tasted.
We can recommend all the main dishes that we ordered along with the drinks.
We considered getting the Hello Kitty Dessert Tray, but we were unsure about the taste of the items included. If you haven’t traveled much in Mexico, you might find that Mexican desserts aren’t usually as sweet as those in the USA. Keeping this in mind, we opted for a few items we thought would taste really good.
Amanda ordered the Lemon Pie from the menu. The lemon curd was tart, but there was only a thin layer of it on top of a very thick pie crust with meringue on top of the lemon curd. Overall, we’d rate the dessert 3.5 out of 5 stars. The crust was dry and overpowered the lemon curd.
Audrey wanted the Hello Kitty Cake Pops, which came in a set of two. Unfortunately, they were covered in a candy coating that tasted shockingly different, though we couldn’t quite identify what it was. The flavor profile was much different from what we’re used to.
Addy ordered the Strawberry Cream Cake, which looked good but was another letdown. The cream on top had a different taste. The biggest disappointment was that it didn’t actually include any cake—it was made with graham crackers instead.
There are many more intriguing items on the menu. Usually, we find something we love, so we plan to go back and try more dishes for another in-depth review of the dessert menu. For now, if any of these desserts interest you, order with caution.
The menu includes a long list of mocktails to choose from. Amanda ordered a piña colada mocktail, and it tasted just like the real thing, minus the rum. We highly recommend the mocktails to elevate your experience at the café.
The ambiance of the Hello Kitty Café was light and airy, with pastel colors and characters scattered around for photo ops. It’s definitely a place you want to visit to fully enjoy the Hello Kitty theme in Mexico.
According to the Instagram account for the Cancun location, they offer Hello Kitty character greetings and meetups. Since they just opened in May 2024, there isn’t a schedule on their website yet. You’ll need to check their Instagram for the latest dates and times for Hello Kitty appearances.
They do have a cenote experience but we were not allowed to use it due to maintence. We will have to go back when the cenote is open.
Though the gift shop was small, it was packed with cool stuff and new arrivals! They had a kitty knit shopper bag, backpacks, t-shirts, and drinkware. Plus, there was jewelry for those who love Hello Kitty and want something a bit fancier. Audrey wanted a plush set but we had to pass this time. It’s life as a full time travel family. There’s never enough room in your suitcase.
The staff was amazing! They first offered us a spot on the first floor near the VIP room, but it was too dark for our photos and videos. We asked to move to a better-lit area, and they quickly made the change. If we were just there to eat, we’d have stayed in the quieter, more private spot by the VIP room.
The wait staff was a bit slow because the upstairs tables with air conditioning were all occupied. The managers and kitchen staff stepped in to help by bringing out food and clearing dirty dishes.
