When it comes to finding the perfect spot for beachcombing and soaking in the sun, Vista Mar Beach in Baja California Sur is a great place to explore. Nestled just down the hill from the Vista Mar residences, you would never know this beach was there.

Where is Vista Mar Beach Located?

Vista Mar Beach is exactly where you would think it would be. It is located down the hill from the Vista Mar residences. The large villas and condo buildings have a stunning view of the beach. Residents know about it but those visiting Costa Baja may easily overlook this beach.

Accessible from the main road, a gate grants entry to a long downhill path leading to the beach. There’s construction happening here so you’ll know you’re in the right spot once you see the gate. While construction workers may occasionally close the gate at night, daytime visitors can easily navigate the path. Often you’ll see some using golf carts for convenience to get down the steep hill. The beach is technically public federal land. You’ll see where it starts as there is a fence and a gate showing that division.  

Exploring Playa Vista Mar

Having frequented this beach during a month of house sitting, I can attest to its charm. It’s an ideal spot to bring your furry companions, with provided amenities like trash cans and doggie poop bags. A few palapas also offer shade. Because hardly anyone comes here you essentially have your own private palapa to enjoy and relax under.

Despite its accessibility, Vista Mar Beach maintains a sense of seclusion. During my time here, encountering other beachgoers was a rare occurrence. We loved that as it allowed for a tranquil experience any day of the week.

Beach Treasures

The beach is small and secluded and it’s not one of the most beautiful beaches that La Paz offers. However, the allure of Vista Mar Beach lies in its abundance of natural treasures and crystal clear water.

Unlike the meticulously cleaned shores of nearby beach clubs… Vista Mar boasts an untouched coastline with a bunch of shells and sea glass to find. The beach will keep you busy as you rummage through the rocks. Don’t be surprised if you see rare clam shells or sizable sea glass pieces.

Its proximity to La Paz inner harbor ensures a steady influx of marine artifacts. You’ll also find sea creature bones and glimpses of stingrays along the shoreline.

Tips for Exploration

For those eager to explore further, low tide reveals hidden shells and treasures. Venture north towards the beach club or south to Playa Las Tortugas for additional opportunities to find items. As the surrounding landscape evolves, with the construction of the Chable Sea of Cortez Hotel, changes may be expected in the area in the coming year so enjoy this place while you can.
