What is what is a burr basket? Burr baskets are basically gift baskets that are tailored to the Christmas and winter season! Burr baskets can be tailored to whoever is receiving them, so truly you can have anything that makes sense for whoever you’re putting this basket together for. These gifts have been growing in popularity since 2024, and are like a stocking but far more aesthetic!

What to put in a burr basket?

Burr baskets can have almost anything you want! The main idea, though, is to stick to the Christmas theme. You could easily niche down into something like Christmas tree chic, or have a gingerbread specific vibe. The only downside with Burr baskets is that i can be hard to find cute, quality gifts that match each other and for the overall vibe of the basket!

How to make a Burr basket

Step 1: Start with the Basket

The base sets the tone. I used a scalloped-edge basket for my daughter, Addison, because it’s cute and reusable. You can go with a woven basket, a festive Christmas tote, or even a storage bin they can keep using after the season!

Step 2: Add a Filler Base

Crinkle paper is your best friend when it comes to building baskets. It props items up, makes everything look more full, and comes in tons of colors. For Christmas, Red, Green, and pink are perfect, but you can also switch it up with blue, white, and tan.

Pro tip: Don’t stress if your basket looks off at first! Add more filler until your items sit at the right height.

Step 3: Start with Larger Items

Always place the biggest item first to anchor your basket. For Addison, I used a cute Gingerbread stuffed animal and a candle she’ll love. Larger pieces give your basket structure, and then you can build around them with smaller items.

Step 4: Layer in Fun & Functional Pieces

Think about what your teen actually loves. Some ideas:

• Cozy blankets or slippers
• Seasonal candles
• Skincare or bath goodies
• Cute room décor (like mini nutcrackers or pillows.)
• Festive cups or glasses
• Snacks or candy

For a quick burr basket add:

• A gingerbread candle
• A cream colored tumbler
• Twelve day advent calendar

Step 5: Adjust & Fill Gaps

If something looks awkward, pull it out and reposition. Add extra crinkle paper to lift pieces up or fill empty spots. Don’t worry about perfection, it’s all about making it feel full and fun.

Step 6: Add the Finishing Touches

Candies, small trinkets, or seasonal touches tie everything together. Even if it’s just a handful of wrapped chocolates, it adds that “Christmas” factor.

Tips for Building the Perfect Burr Basket

• Keep your loved one’s personality in mind! Are they into skincare, cozy vibes, or festive décor?
• Mix practical items (like a tumbler) with fun seasonal touches (like Christmas mugs.)

At the end of the day, burr baskets don’t need to be complicated or expensive. A little filler, a few thoughtful items, and you’ve got a basket they’ll be so excited to dig into.
