The Edit: Beautyblender is the makeup sponge brand created by Hollywood makeup artist Rea Ann Silva, who hand cut the first one for high definition TV touch ups and describes herself as Mexican, Portuguese, Spanish and Irish. Amanda has been gifted twice through ShopMy. The Sephora Hispanic Heritage Month gifting included the Beautyblender Pro, the black edgeless sponge the brand says is made with latex free, aqua activated foam and absorbs 33% less makeup than competitor sponges, the Boost Firming and Smoothing Peptide Primer (30 mL, a cooling gel with peptides and ceramides that the brand says grips makeup for up to 18 hours), and the Charcoal Tool Scrub (1 oz solid soap with natural exfoliating grains for cleaning sponges and brushes, no scrub mat needed). The first gifting was a makeup sponge set: the Original Beautyblender in pink, the Power Pocket Puff dual sided powder puff with a finger pocket for setting and baking, and a sample of the Boost 4 in 1 Firming Peptide Setting Spray. To use a Beautyblender, wet it, squeeze out the excess water, then bounce foundation or any complexion product across the face. Beautyblender is sold at beautyblender.com, Sephora, Ulta and Target.
| Beautyblender PR Gifting | Details |

| Boost Firming and Smoothing Peptide Primer | 30 mL cooling gel primer with peptides and ceramides |
| Charcoal Tool Scrub | 1 oz solid soap for sponges and brushes, charcoal and natural cellulose exfoliant |
| Original Beautyblender (pink) | The original edgeless sponge, 17 time Allure Best of Beauty winner |
| Power Pocket Puff | Dual sided powder puff with a finger pocket and jelly center, machine washable |
| Boost Setting Spray sample | Sample of the 4 in 1 firming peptide 18 hour setting spray |
| Price | $18 to $33 per product |
| Size or specs | Sponges sold single, primer 30 mL, tool scrub 1 oz, setting spray sample size |
| What I love so far | A damp sponge grows in size and makes makeup go on smooth, and the tip gets into the corners of my eyes and around my nose |
| My concern | Sponges get torn up with use, so this is a tool you replace. I have not tried the Tool Scrub or the primer yet |
| Where to buy | beautyblender.com, Sephora, Ulta, Target |
Beautyblender gifted these through ShopMy. All thoughts and first impressions are my own.
Beautyblender has gifted me twice now. The first box was the makeup sponge set with the original pink sponge, the Power Pocket Puff and a Boost Setting Spray sample. The second came for Sephora’s Hispanic Heritage Month, and that one is the box in my photo: the Beautyblender Pro in black, the Boost Primer and the Tool Scrub.
I like this brand for the Hispanic background behind it. Rea Ann Silva, the makeup artist who created the sponge, is Latina, and that matters to me when I pick who to work with.
Yes, and a lot of people don’t know that. You wet it, get it damp, and squeeze out as much water as you can. From there it gets bigger in size. That is what holds the product and makes it go on really smooth and pretty. You can use the tip to get into the corners of your eyes or the creases of your nose better.
The Beautyblender Pro is the same edgeless shape in black. The brand calls it the pro favored shade and says it is for applying darker makeup products. I’ve been using this one and the original side by side, and it squishes down the same way.
They just launched at Target too, so you can grab the Pro there now.
The original pink sponge is the one everybody copies. The brand says its foam is an exclusive aqua activated material that absorbs 33% less makeup than competitor sponges. From what I understand, that foam is why the dupes can’t quite get there yet.
Here’s my little tip. Both sponges squish down, so I keep them in a small Cadence capsule so they don’t get my makeup bag dirty. Once a sponge gets torn up, you just buy a new one.
The Boost Primer is a cooling gel with peptides and ceramides. The label says it grips makeup for up to 18 hours and that you apply it on bare skin with a damp Beautyblender before makeup. I haven’t used it yet. I’ll be adding it in soon to try.
The Charcoal Tool Scrub is a solid soap for sponges and brushes. The brand says you wet, swirl, lather, rinse, squeeze and dry, with no scrub mat needed. I got this one to clean my makeup brushes. I haven’t tried it yet, so that’s coming.
The Power Pocket Puff is a dual sided powder puff with a pocket for your finger, made for setting and baking. The Boost Setting Spray came as a sample. Both are from the first gifting, and I’ll share more once I’ve put them through their paces.
Sponges wear out and get torn up, so I’m watching how long each one lasts before I need a new one. I’m also waiting to see how the Tool Scrub does on my brushes and how the primer works under my makeup.
The sponges are awesome, and I’ll update this post with a full review after I’ve used everything.
