The Perfect Family getaway in Utah. Located between beautiful Cliff Dwellings it’s the best family base location for nearby attractions close to Moab, Monument Valley, and Four Corners Monument. Read more on why we enjoyed this resort.
After our long day of travel from Mesa Verde and the 4 Corners Monument, we elected to stay at Bluff Utah’s newest luxury hotel experience located along the San Juan River. The photos of the resort looked gorgeous. Amanda saw on TikTok a video featuring the boulders of bluff so she really wanted to visit. As we entered the property we noticed the huge sandstone cliffs that surround the resort.
The ancestral Puebloan-inspired dwellings stand out and you can see them as you drive to the property from the highway. As we parked the car we noticed the adorable large Tipis. Amanda really wanted to stay in a tipi. She tried to book one for our family but they said it would be a little tight for a family of four. Instead we chose a standard room. Bluff Dwellings is categorized as a 3-star resort, but it gives off a boutique intimate feel that we can’t wait to show you.
The Bluff Dwellings Resort property includes a hot tub, an outdoor swimming pool with a slide, a fitness center, a playground, and a rope tree swing. We arrived early and the front desk said we could relax at the pool and playground until our room was ready for us. The front desk area has a bunch of options for snacks and drinks. They are available to you 24 hours a day.
We took them up on their offer to hang by the pool. There are changing rooms in the pool area with showers so we grabbed an adult beverage and relaxed by the pool that afternoon. The outdoor pool is open from 8am until 10pm. They offer one main pool with a slide and a hot tub to enjoy too.
We didn’t get to enjoy the hot tub that afternoon but we did sneak in early to the pool area by 15 minutes the next morning to get a few photos because it was so pretty.
We saw online they offer rooms in big tipis which looked like family friendly rooms. We opted to not stay in a tipi this time because they only sleep 2 people. Unfortunately the do not provide much room for a family of four but you may be able to easily squeeze in 3. They look really nice and offer an interesting Glamping experience especially at this resort. They have a king size bed and have all the amenities as a standard room located on the property.
We stayed in the Double Queen Pueblo on the first floor and it felt like a family suite. A nice advantage was the ability to utilize the free private parking that is very close to the entrance door. Opening the room door you are welcomed by a spacious room and a balcony! The view out the back window includes the solitude of hundred-million-year-old sandstone cliffs and lounge chairs accompanying cozy – open fireplaces.
The Double Queen Pueblo offered two queen beds along with a large flat-screen tv making it a great place to watch a movie with the kids. The bathroom had a rainfall shower and toilet in a separate room. They had a sink vanity with very bright lights with a mirror. You can book your stay through us HERE.
This room felt very large and spacious. It was very well decorated with a canvas print and bright turquoise headboards at the base of the huge double beds. This color scheme and small touches brought the southwest flare into the room making this a perfect place for you to stay a while.
The resort has an on-site cafe called the Cedar Cafe. The cafe’s hours differ by season, check with the front desk or on the door for that info. The entire building is constructed like a cedar shack. It is centrally located on the property making it easy for you to access. I’m sure you’ll enjoy the food here because we thought it was pretty good.
We opted to eat at the resort instead of leaving the property. Amanda wanted to order room service but unfortunately, they do not offer it here. However, it was easy to just walk to the cafe and get our order to go. We had the option of dining in but decided to eat on our patio and enjoy our epic views for the evening.
We snagged 2 pizzas, Navajo ash bread with artichoke dip, and a turkey wrap. They had a pretty good selection of options. You can expect to see standard menu items that are usually found in the States. The pizza was cooked well just how we like it, crunchy and served with a side of hot sauce.
We grabbed breakfast here before heading out the next day. They were serving up French toast among other items. The girls got pancakes and french toast while Amanda and I snagged a few extremely filling breakfast burritos to enjoy on the road as we geared up to head to monument valley.
Canyon Smokehouse: We haven’t eaten here yet but it piqued my interest while looking for places to eat in the area. We love barbecue but after the long day we decided to stay in. The menu they have looks very good and includes smoked briskets, pulled pork, sausage and chicken. They offer sandwiches and entree platers along with a kids menu too.
If we venture this way again we will be stopping here. It looks like the best option in the Bluff Utah area. If you go let us know how it was!
The busiest season for Southern Utah is during springtime when the temperatures are cooler. We visited in October and found it to be a great time to visit. I was great because the summer heat was not present. If you’re planning to book a future visit I’d recommend fall time too. The resort’s capacity felt like it was less than half occupancy when we visited. Honestly it’s one of the best times to avoid crowds if you’re trying to do that.
We did encounter many dogs at this location, so be prepared for that. Especially if you have allergies or a fear of doge. We did not have any issues with being awakened at night but did get barked at in the morning by other patrons packing and loading their vehicles during check-out time.
The spa is located on the Bluff Dwellings Resort property close to the pool. I wish we stayed long enough to enjoy the spa services. The spa offers a variety of treatments including massages and nail treatments offering the best user experience in the historic Bluff Utah area.
The turquoise sage full body massage in a place that is located in the middle of nowhere sounds relaxing and rejuvenating. I’m sure the massage will make you forget about the outside world and help you recover from a busy schedule. If you try the spa out here come back and tell us about your experience. We would love to know!
We did not know they operate and own WILD Expeditions. They offer world class journeys including river rafting trips, canyoneering, ruin hikes at Bears Ears National Monument and can answer your call of wanderlust.
They can do private excursions if you are looking for a more personal experience. The front desk of the resort can help you with your questions and scheduling if you are interested in a trip. They have an office located within the lobby near the front desk with pamphlets and banners to check out.
Yes it is close to the monument, it is about a 50 minute drive and is a very scenic drive to the monument.
Yes pets are allowed. They only have 4 rooms available that can accomodate pets, you will want to contact the front desk for availability.
I would use this as a home base location if you are exploring Moab, Monument Valley, and the surrounding Utah area. After our stay here we headed towards Zion National Park. We loved our stay here and will be back and we encourage you to visit bluff dwellings on your next amazing journey. And the resort is really new because Bluff Dwellings Resort opened in 2019.
