Los Rapidos is a dreamy spot unlike anything we’ve experienced! It’s down a well-maintained dirt road ending at a villa-style building that hosts a restaurant, seating, and access to the Bacalar Lagoon. Located about 18 minutes outside downtown Bacalar near Xul-Ha, it’s definitely worth the drive, your family will be amazed by the unique views and crystal-clear waters!

How Much Does Los Rapidos Cost And Can You Sit Anywhere?

There’s a small entrance fee of about 200 pesos for adults, and lockers are available for 100 pesos upfront (you’ll get 50 pesos back when you return the key). Parking is free for cars, motorbikes, and bicycles.

The main palapa-roof restaurant area is free to enjoy all day. For seating by the water, under the palm trees, or on the two-story observation deck, they ask you to buy food And/or drinks, though there’s no minimum spend. This helps keep these spots open for customers.

They’ve got plenty of options to satisfy your hungry crew! We kept it light with nachos and pizza, but they also have burgers, crepes, and other poolside classics, both savory and sweet. Don’t forget to grab a paleta (ice cream or fruit bar) for a sweet treat!

They have a wide variety of drinks, from coffee and smoothies to cocktails and beer, so no matter your preference, mocktail or cocktail, you’ll stay refreshed here!

How is The Service & Friendliness at Los Rapidos?

The service here is excellent and quicker than other spots we’ve visited in the area. The staff speaks both English and Spanish, so there’s no need to worry about any language barrier!

What’s the Vibe Like at Los Rapidos?

The vibe is super laid-back, like a mix between a beach club and a family-friendly pool. The tropical jungle and beach setting is especially nice on Wednesdays when the lagoon is closed to boat traffic.

We spent a full day here and had a fantastic time, it’ll definitely be a highlight of your trip!

Does Los Rapidos Have Other Specialty Services?

For a more upscale experience, they offer a cabana and table near one of the Bacalar stromatolite entrances for around 400 pesos. There’s also a spacious deck area with a large table under a palapa roof, seating up to 15 people, ideal for bigger groups.

Things To Do At Los Rapidos

To make the most of your day at Los Rápidos, grab a spot by the water or even snag one of the hammocks for the ultimate chill vibes. They’ve got picnic tables, lounge chairs, and cabanas for you to set up camp.

Don’t forget to wear the free life jackets, the current can be strong! You can also rent single or double kayaks (200-400 pesos per hour) for a little adventure. And if you need to stay connected, Wi-Fi is available for 80 pesos per device.

Pro tip: Arrive early to snag the best spots by the water. They open at 10 a.m., so beat the crowds for prime seating and a chill day.

Things Not To Do at Los Rapidos

At Los Rápidos, avoid bringing outside food or drinks, they’ll check bags at the entrance. The Bacalar stromatolites are ancient and fragile, so protecting them is essential.

Sunscreen, makeup, lotions, and any applied skin products are prohibited to help preserve this unique ecosystem.

What to Wear and Bring With You to Los Rapidos

Although sunscreen isn’t allowed in the Bacalar Lagoon, I highly recommend bringing sun-protective clothing and a hat if you’re prone to burning. Most of the property has shaded areas to relax in if you forget these items.

Just remember, they don’t provide towels for your lagoon experience, so be sure to bring your own!

Los Rápidos is an awesome spot for families and kids! The current feels like a natural lazy river winding through the jungle, flowing from the southwest and taking you through a unique stromatolite canal found only here in the world. For the best experience, visit on a weekday in the morning before it gets crowded in the afternoon.
