Things to see at Hotel Indigo La Paz

Hotel Indigo is situated right on the powdery white sand beach, just steps away from the lobby. While the lobby features three expansive windows without glass, offering stunning views of La Paz Bay and the Sea of Cortez. This family-friendly resort boasts daily breathtaking sunsets and three pools to keep your kids entertained. With rooms offering desert, marina, and tropical beach sunset views, Hotel Indigo provides a variety of scenic vistas for guests to enjoy.

Room Type Selection 

During our stay at Hotel Indigo, we experienced two different room types. The first was the twin beds with a pool and ocean view on the second floor (lobby floor). This room included two twin beds and a balcony with chairs and a table. 

Although the room felt somewhat small because the shower was separate from the sink and toilet, it has since been renovated. The hotel was formally known as Costa Baja Resort & Spa in Puerta Cortes. Now it’s a part of the InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) brand.

The new room type features two queen beds and a conventionally laid out bathroom, in line with what you would expect from a large hotel brand like IHG. The room style and furnishings have been updated to evoke a beach – boho vibe, offering a soft and visually appealing atmosphere. We love it and feel like it really brings elements of the Baja lifestyle alive throughout the property.

The second room type was the king suite with views of the marina and desert mountains – golf course. It featured a spacious living area with a sleeper sofa, a dining table for four, and a huge balcony overlooking the marina, with a slight glimpse of the ocean.

The bedroom featured a luxurious king-sized bed, complemented by two balconies and expansive windows that filled the room with natural light. Blackout shades guaranteed uninterrupted sleep, while a spacious desk area and a large flat-screen TV provided ample entertainment options. 

Hotel Indigo La Paz Reviews and Amenity Specifications  

Here’s what amenities and services you can expect from your stay at the Hotel Indigo La Paz. Along with our review rating and tips on each entity.

• Free Wi-Fi Speed: (4 out of 5 stars) for the free WIFI. It did reach all the way to the pool and hotel restaurant, Barco.
• Early Check-in & Baggage Holding Available: We used the early check in ounce but is usually not needed for us at this location. 
• Wall Sockets for Charging: They have the standard USA and Americas plug. 
• Bed, Sheets, and Furniture Comfort Level: (4 out of 5 stars) The beds were comfortable and the king suite along with the smaller room had great blackout curtains. 
• Water Pressure & Water Temp: (4 out of 5 stars) the water is hot and water pressure was adequate. 
• Shuttle Service: They offer a golf cart service to the puerta cortes restaurants. Marina Costa Baja offers a shuttle to and from town on a schedule. Located across from the Doce Cuarenta Cafe. 
• Customer Service: customer service is pretty good and Martin is the best at the pool bar. 
• Bell & Maid service: the bell service is great, they offer you a welcome drink, usually a beer or wine. Valet is required if you drive a vehicle, it was included during our stay. 
• Customer Complaint Resolution Experience: The resolution was very fast, we switched rooms because party goers woke us up coming back from a wedding reception. The new room was available first thing in the morning and they were greatly sorry for the inconvenience. 

Where to eat at Hotel Indigo La Paz

By the pool, we always indulge in the quintessential poolside snacks: pepperoni pizza and guacamole. Surprisingly, even though I’m not a fan of pepperoni pizza, the ones served here are exceptional, arguably the best in the Costa Baja area. 

Barco Restaurante: If you’ve visited before, you might remember this spot as Steinbeck’s. While the food wasn’t exceptional, the location was. Now, under the new name Barco, the restaurant has undergone renovations and introduced a fresh menu. While we haven’t tried the food ourselves, the pictures and reviews on Google look promising.

Access to the Puerto Beach Club: This new addition to the resort is truly impressive. The food is delicious, and the cocktails are expertly crafted and visually appealing. For more details about the Beach Club, feel free to check out our review here.

The Best Time to Visit & Things to Know About Visiting Hotel Indigo La Paz

For the best experience, plan your visit to the resort during mid-spring. La Paz offers plenty of activities and attractions during this time. Carnival, which starts in early February and includes Family Day on the 19th, is a highlight worth experiencing if you can vacation during the event.

Three Pools and a Spa

The hotel boasts a large main pool, a separate pool for kids, and a lap pool. The main pool, visible from the lobby, is the centerpiece, resembling an oasis in the desert landscape.

The main pool offers plenty of space for lounging and family fun. It features a gradual stair step entry with shallower sections, ideal for children, and deeper areas. Adjacent to the hotel, there’s a poolside seating area for relaxation.

The swim-up bar features stools within the pool for easy access. Our normal bartender is named Martin and he makes a killer margarita. It helps that he is friendly and he takes food orders to fend off the munchies while working hard on your sun tan. 

A great surprise during our second visit was discovering that the pool is heated in winter, a feature we missed during our first stay. Martin informed us about this on our return, ensuring we enjoyed a comfortable swim despite the cooler weather.

Located just beyond the main pool, the kid pool is ideal for little ones, with a depth of one foot or less. Its shallow waters and smaller size make it perfect for infants and toddlers. Plus, it tends to be slightly warmer, thanks to its shallow depth and quicker heating from sunlight

The Lap Pool

The last pool is a square-shaped lap pool, often empty when I’ve visited. Positioned for laps, it’s accompanied by a huge palapa for shade. Situated on the east side near the Barco restaurant, it offers a serene spot for swimming and relaxation.

The Beautiful Costa Baja Beach With Turtle Nest and Stingray Warning 

The beach here ranks among the best in La Paz. Its soft, powdery sand resembles that of Florida’s Gulf Coast and Key West—white, fine, and perfect for play

This beach is a nesting ground for sea turtles. We’ve witnessed sea turtle nests here, and the staff responsibly cordoned off the area from guests. During turtle hatching season, they release the turtles on this beach, ensuring their return for future egg laying.

• A note on stingrays: When entering or exiting the water, it’s crucial to shuffle your feet, not just on this beach but everywhere in Baja. Stingrays are abundant and often buried in the sand, making them invisible even in clear water

This beach typically attracts many beachgoers, so there’s usually a lower risk compared to more remote beaches. However, I’ve spotted stingrays at Vista Mar Beach and Playa Las Tortugas. It’s essential to exercise caution when entering or exiting the water, as Addy experienced a stingray encounter in the Mulege area, and it’s not a pleasant experience.

Should I stay at Hotel Indigo La Paz with my family?

I highly recommend staying here with your family if you’re looking for a resort/hotel experience for your holiday. We stayed both before and during renovations and hardly noticed any changes. The revamped look has us eager to revisit just to see the new rooms and updated lobby. If you do stay here, please say hi to Martin at the pool for us; he’s a genuinely sweet guy.
