Looking for a quick and easy family beach getaway? Rocky Point, Mexico, also known as Puerto Peñasco, is the perfect spot. Just a short 50-mile drive from the U.S. border, you can leave the stress behind and dive straight into warm waters and sunny beaches. No more battling the crowds in Southern California – this is the laid-back vacation you’ve been dreaming of.

We visited Puerto Peñasco during a scorching July and quickly realized that staying cool and comfortable was a must. After checking out a few hotels, we found some amazing spots that were perfect for our family. From beautiful resorts like Marina Pinacate Condominios to super family-friendly options like Encántame Towers, there’s a place for everyone. Our boat is docked here, so we’ll definitely be back to explore more and share our experiences!

Encántame Towers

We chose to stay at Encantame Towers for a short family vacation to unwind before resuming our travels. We stayed at the Verano 802 condo located on the 14th floor, positioned at the far end of the hallway to the east. Melissa the owner hosted us two nights and we had an amazing stay, check out her Instagram for Encanto Beach Mexico.

Room Type and Accommodation 

The two-bedroom vacation rental equipped with a kitchen was super luxury. The owners adorned the unit beautifully, and the plush queen beds ensured we had a restful sleep. It was stocked with everything essential for a beach getaway – from a portable crib to beach toys, cooler, chairs, and towels. The thoughtful touches made our stay convenient and enjoyable. She literally has everything to make this unit feel like you’re in a home and not a cookie cutter Airbnb option.

Positioned on this side of the complex, we were treated to breathtaking views of both sunrise and sun sets from the living room. The terrace, with its expansive glass panels, provided an unparalleled vantage point for lounging on chairs or the couch while soaking in the magnificent scenery.

Encantame Towers, a modern property, offers numerous amenities for families to relish. During breakfast with the owners, they expressed their fondness for the  beautiful beaches, highlighting the joy of discovering seashells in the area.

Outdoor Swimming Pool Area

This property boasts an expansive pool area, including a large lazy river on the east side with a heated pool. The main area offers infinity pools, two kiddie pools for young ones, and a convenient swim-up bar. Additionally, the center of the area features a fun water slide that will keep kids entertained for hours.

For a more intimate experience, head to the adult private pool situated on the rooftop of the east tower building. Here, you’ll find not only the pool but also a hot tub and bar, perfect for relaxing and enjoying the views.

On-Site Restaurants

Indulge in delicious dining options without leaving the property at Blue Palm Cafe and the renowned Santo Coyote Ocean Cantina. Blue Palm Cafe serves up breakfast and lunch fare, complemented by Starbucks coffee for a satisfying meal on the go.

We had a delightful dinner experience at Santo Coyote Ocean Cantina, where our waiter prepared fresh table-side salsa to complement our meal. The great customer service enhanced our dining experience, making it truly memorable.

We indulged in a variety of beautifully presented dishes, each bursting with the authentic flavors you’d anticipate from a traditional Mexican cantina.

Marina Pinacate Condominios

This fantastic accommodation is conveniently situated next to Peñasco Del Sol Hotel, providing guests with complimentary free private parking. While it’s unclear if they’re owned by the same people, staying here during hurricane season while storing our boat was a delightful experience.

Our accommodation was on the first floor, a spacious two-bedroom condo typically used as a vacation home by a family. The air conditioning was refreshingly chilly, and the furnished balcony provided a perfect spot to enjoy morning coffee. 

The unit came equipped with kid-friendly toys, a kayak, and board games to enhance your vacation experience. Playa Bonita, a sandy beach, is just a short stroll away, passing by the Penasco Del Sol property. If the beach isn’t your preference, the outdoor pool offers a refreshing alternative, bustling with families enjoying the sunny weather. Additionally, the pool area boasts a hot tub, perfect for relaxing and soothing any sore muscles acquired from our boat packing endeavors.

We encountered a minor issue with the cleaning staff upon our departure. They claimed we stained a towel and gave us the option to replace it or pay for a new one. We promptly informed the condo owner, who took care of the situation. While we can’t confirm it was a scam, it did feel like a questionable situation.

If you’re seeking proximity to excellent restaurants and convenient beach access for your family, Pinacate Condominios is worth considering. The atmosphere is welcoming for families, and the staff is friendly. One drawback we noticed was the presence of mosquitoes around the pool area, likely due to the installation of real grass for landscaping to enhance the pool view.

Playa Hermosa, Rocky Point’s main beach, is surrounded by a variety of hotels and resorts located in close proximity. Its convenient position near the town ensures easy access to local restaurants and a diverse range of vacation experiences. With so many options we couldn’t explore everything on this trip but when we come back here are some we’d consider staying at next time.

Sonoran Resorts

Sonoran Spa Condominium Resort

In the Puerto Penasco area, Sonoran resorts abound, with the Sonoran Spa Condominium Resort being the oldest on the sandy beach. This resort in their lineup features a full-service spa and a wide range of amenities.

Sonoran Sea Resort 

The Sonoran Sea Resort, the second project, sits adjacent to the Sonoran Spa. Owners implemented improvements based on lessons learned from the previous project, enhancing the large pool and adding a pool bar to this location.

Sonoran Sun Resort

The Sonoran Sun Resort boasts a concave design, positioning the center units closer to the beach and the Sea of Cortez. Guests can enjoy amenities like a sports bar and a convenience store, offering last-minute essentials that can be purchased with both cash and credit card.

Sonoran Sky Resort

Sonoran Sky, the epitome of their commitment to a lap of luxury, reflects their dedication to uncompromising opulence. Among their finest 4-star hotels, it offers four pools, including a heated pool option, ensuring a lavish experience for guests.

Bella Sirena Resort

Bella Sirena, situated amidst the esteemed Sonoran Resorts, distinguishes itself with expansive villas tailored for family vacations. Its lush surroundings, featuring abundant greenery and palm trees, epitomize luxury. Notably, guests benefit from the allure of luxury without the additional fees often associated with Airbnb or VRBO bookings.

Las Palmas Resort

The resort enjoys a prime location along Sandy Beach’s resort row. While the beach isn’t designated as a private beach—typical of Mexican beaches—its expansive size allows guests to enjoy a secluded atmosphere, with ample space for everyone to spread out and savor their visit.

The resort boasts one of the largest pool areas for kids, featuring two expansive water slides. However, it’s worth noting that this area is situated towards the rear of the property.

At Las Palmas Resort, you’ll find a variety of accommodation options ranging from cozy 1-bedroom units to spacious 4-bedroom villas. The larger villas resemble beach homes, complete with a garage and a balcony. Additionally, these villas come equipped with grills and patio furniture for added convenience and enjoyment.

Princesa De Peñasco 

At Princesa de Peñasco Resort Condominiums, you’ll experience a welcoming, home-like atmosphere, with many condos recently renovated for guests’ comfort. From cozy one-bedroom units to spacious five-bedroom villas, there’s accommodation to suit the needs of the whole family.

Colins Cantina, the on-site restaurant at Princesa de Peñasco Resort Condominiums, offers enticing promotions such as 2-for-1 bacon burgers on select days. Keep an eye on their Facebook page for details on when these deals are available. Additionally, they host happy hour from 4-6pm, perfect for enjoying refreshing drinks and delicious snacks.

Hotel Playa Bonita Resort

For a simple and relaxing beach getaway without the frills of a 4-star resort, consider Hotel Playa Bonita Resort. While it’s a 3-star hotel without amenities like a golf course or tennis court, who needs those on a beach vacation, right? Enjoy the sun, sand, and sea with your family at this comfortable and convenient destination.

Consider Playa Bonita Resort for a laid-back resort experience. With amenities like a spa, beach access, grills, and a small convenience store for snacks and beer, it’s perfect for shorter stays or those seeking a simpler vacation vibe.

After handling some business in Puerto Penasco, we discovered fantastic spots to unwind with family. It was a relief to mix work with relaxation on the beach for a few days. Puerto Penasco offers an ideal beach getaway, especially for those residing in Arizona or New Mexico.
